Leadership & Experience
International Yacht Response was established in 2012 by Capt. Jake DesVergers, who continues to lead the organization and development of its emergency preparedness, compliance, and response programs.
Capt. DesVergers brings more than three decades of maritime experience, including service as a Master Mariner, classification society executive and senior surveyor, flag-state representative, and founder and Chief Surveyor of a global yacht classification and certification organization. His background encompasses vessel operations, yacht safety and compliance, casualty response, marine surveying, regulatory affairs, and safety engineering.
A graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, Capt. DesVergers holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and a Master of Science in Safety Engineering. His combination of formal education, seagoing experience, and decades of technical and regulatory work provides a practical foundation for IYR's approach to emergency preparedness and response.
He works alongside IYR's network of experienced maritime professionals and response partners to ensure clients have access to the technical expertise and resources needed during both routine operations and time-critical marine emergencies.
